Overview
Royal Life Saving Bronze Medallion course is a nationally recognised course that focuses on developing the participants’ survival and rescue skills enabling them to make the correct decisions in an aquatic emergency. The Bronze Medallion course will enhance your personal survival skills while providing you with the knowledge and skills to develop the level of judgement‚ technique and physical ability required to safely perform water rescues. 

This course additionally contains delivery and assessment of the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), inline with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

You are required to have a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability to perform the required aquatic skills. With these skills learnt and developed through this course are a great introduction to becoming a Pool Lifeguard or Swimming Instructor. 

Delivery Mode
This course requires the completion of an online module prior to attendance at the face-to-face course. Only those who have completed the online module in full will be able to attend this course. (Study time: recommended 3 hours).

The course covers a range of water safety topics including safe water practices; survival in the water; self-preservation; recognising an emergency; assessment before and during a rescue; priorities for rescue; resuscitation; acceptance of responsibility; use of bystanders; emergency care; and contacting emergency services.

The amount of training is approximately 9 hours, comprising of:
  • Online Learning and Assessment: 3 hours
  • Face-to-face Course: 6 hours

Outcomes
To achieve a Statement of Attainment, candidates must successfully complete the practical components under the award conditions.

Upon successful course completion of the course participants will be issued with a Nationally Recognised Training certificate (Statement of Attainment). Units of Competency achievable through this course include:
  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • SISCAQU020 Perform Water Rescues

Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Literacy
This course requires a moderate level of Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital Skills.
ACSF 2/3 in Learning, Reading and ACSF 2 level in Numeracy and Oral Communication. View the Australian Core Skills Framework for more information.
